Type Designation Guide

The letters used in the cable type designations have the following meanings according to the certificate attached sheet:

• CK: shipboard control cable

• CH: shipboard communication and instrumentation cable

• J: XLPE insulation

• E: EPR insulation

• PJ: cross-linked polyolefin insulation or sheath

• PF: thermoplastic polyolefin insulation or sheath

• F: polychloroprene rubber sheath

• DA: flame retardant type tested to IEC 60332-1-2

• SA: flame retardant type tested to IEC 60332-1-2 and IEC 60332-3-22

• NA(NSA): bunched cable flame retardant, fire resistance

• NC(NSC): bunched cable flame retardant, fire resistance, low smoke and halogen free

• SC: bunched cable flame retardant, low smoke and halogen free

• P: pair to pair shielding, total shielding, or pair shielding plus total shielding, using tinned copper wire, copper wire or aluminum foil

• 8: copper wire or tinned copper wire braid

• 9: galvanized steel wire braid

• 5: cross-linked polyolefin outer sheath

• 6: thermoplastic polyolefin outer sheath

• 0: no outer sheath

Application

This certificate applies to shipboard control and instrumentation communication cables used for control, signal, measurement and communication circuits on vessels and offshore units where NK related type tested cable is required. Screened types are suitable for circuits where interference control is needed.
