Approved Cable Types

The certificate covers XLPE insulated CJ series shipboard power cables with the following fire performance variants:

• CJ86, CJ96, CJ85, CJ95, CJPJ, CJPJ80, CJPJ85, CJPJ90, CJPJ95, CJPF, CJPF80, CJPF86, CJPF90, CJPF96 with /SC or /NC suffix — single core from 1mm2 to 240mm2, 2 and 3 core from 1mm2 to 240mm2, 4 and 5 core from 1mm2 to 185mm2

• CJPJR, CJPJR80, CJPJR85, CJPJR90, CJPJR95 and CJPFR, CJPFR80, CJPFR86, CJPFR90, CJPFR96 with /SC or /NC suffix — 4 core with earth from 2.5/1.5 to 185/95, and 6 to 37 core from 1mm2 to 4mm2

• CEF80 and CEF90 armoured types with /DA, /SA or /NA suffix

Construction per the certificate: stranded tinned annealed copper or annealed copper conductors per IEC 60228 class 2 or class 5, with flexible copper conductor options; XLPE insulation; inner sheath options of SHF1, SHF2 or polychloroprene rubber; copper wire or galvanized steel wire braid armour; and SHF1 or SHF2 outer sheath. Temperature class 90°C. Conductor cross sections from 1.0mm2 to 300mm2 and core counts from 4 to 37 complete the range.

Type Designation Guide

Per the certificate appendix: C designates shipboard power cable; J designates XLPE insulation; R designates flexible copper conductor; PF designates halogen free flame retardant thermoplastic compound SHF1 and PJ the thermoset SHF2; F designates polychloroprene rubber; 8 designates copper or tinned copper wire braid armour and 9 galvanized steel wire braid; 5 designates SHF2 outer sheath, 6 SHF1, 0 no outer sheath. Flammability codes: SC bunched cable flame retardant low smoke halogen free, and NC or NSC bunched cable flame retardant with fire resistance, low smoke and halogen free.

Testing and Documentation

Type test reports referenced in the certificate include CT16-3471-3 and CT16-3471-4 dated 19 September 2016, and TN24-1613A1E dated 13 May 2024. Cable marking includes voltage grade, cable symbol, number of conductors and conductor size, flame retardant type, manufacturer name, year of manufacture and applied cable version. Individual product certification applies per the approval conditions for KR classed projects.

Application

The certificate applies to 0.6/1kV XLPE insulated shipboard power cables on vessels classed by Korean Register, covering general power distribution, switchboard connections and motor feeders, with the CJ series offering the higher temperature margin of XLPE insulation where EPR duty is not required.
