Approved Cable Types

The certificate covers XLPE insulated CKJ series shipboard control cables with the following variants:

• CKJ86, CKJ96, CKJ85, CKJ95 with /SC or /NC suffix — 2 to 48 cores in 0.5mm2, 0.75mm2, 1.0mm2, 1.5mm2 and 2.5mm2

• CKJPF, CKJPF80, CKJPF86, CKJPF90, CKJPF96, CKJPJ, CKJPJ80, CKJPJ85, CKJPJ90, CKJPJ95 with /SC or /NC suffix

• CKJPFP, CKJPFP80, CKJPFP86, CKJPFP90, CKJPFP96 and CKJPJP, CKJPJP80, CKJPJP85, CKJPJP90, CKJPJP95 with /SC or /NC suffix — tinned copper wire braid screened versions for instrumentation duty

Core counts from 2 to 48, conductor sizes from 0.5mm2 to 2.5mm2, temperature class 90°C. Construction per the certificate: stranded tinned annealed copper or annealed copper conductors per IEC 60228 class 2, XLPE insulation, SHF1 or SHF2 inner sheath, tinned copper wire braid screening where the P designation applies, copper wire or galvanized steel wire braid armour, and SHF1 or SHF2 outer sheath.

Type Designation Guide

Per the certificate appendix: CK designates shipboard control cable; J designates XLPE insulation; PF designates halogen free flame retardant thermoplastic compound SHF1 and PJ the thermoset SHF2; P designates tinned copper wire braid screen; 8 designates copper or tinned copper wire braid armour and 9 galvanized steel wire braid; 5 designates SHF2 outer sheath, 6 SHF1, 0 no outer sheath. Flammability codes: SC bunched cable flame retardant low smoke halogen free, and NC or NSC bunched cable flame retardant with fire resistance, low smoke and halogen free.

Testing and Documentation

Type test reports referenced in the certificate include CT16-3473-1 through CT16-3473-4 dated 19 September 2016, and TN24-1615A1E and TN24-1617A1E dated 13 May 2024. Cable marking includes voltage grade, cable symbol, number of conductors and conductor size, flame retardant type, manufacturer name, year of manufacture and applied cable version. Individual product certification applies per the approval conditions for KR classed projects.

The certificate applies to 150/250V XLPE insulated shipboard control cables on vessels classed by Korean Register, covering automation, alarm, monitoring and control circuits, with screened CKJPFP and CKJPJP types for interference sensitive instrumentation and fire resistant variants for emergency circuits.
